| Mt Wilson is about 20 miles east of where I live in Westwood in the Angeles National Forest. The wilderness area which encompasses a huge area of the county is one of the lesser known aspects of Los Angeles. From the downtown and certain beaches along the coast the snow capped peaks can be seen during winter against the palm trees. Further along there are actually ski areas, making it possible to surf and ski in the same day. Up on top there is an observatory and an array of broadcast antennas. The view to the north is clear, but looking south is tricky with all the smog. Apparently during spring it’s possible to see the downtown at 10 miles away and the ocean at 20 miles, I’ll have to revisit then. |
