| Pirates of the Caribbean: Johnny Depp has never let me down before and this movie is no exception to that streak. Apparently his inspiration for the role came from Keith Richards, and only Depp could manage to say things like "yo ho" and not sound like a tool. This movie is full of eye candy like exploding ships, 18th century English solidiers in crisp red uniforms, zombie pirates, and the fresh faced Keira Knightley. After seeing this movie, I totally wanted to be a pirate. Check it out. |
| Max: This movie seemed to come in under the radar but became on of my instant favorites. It's a movie about a Jewish art dealer named Max (played by John Cusack) in Munich in 1918 struggling to rebuild his art business after losing his arm while serving in the German Army. In the midst of his dealings he encounters a 29-year-old Adolf Hitler (played by Noah Taylor), who, like himself, has been scarred by the war. Max first tries to help the young, failed, bitter Hitler re-establish his art career. (Hitler, before turning to politics, was a painter) However the bitterness of Hitler wins him over, and he is unable to adopt the "modern" styles of the time. If you have any sort of interest in history I would recommend this movie. And hearing John Cusack utter lines like "oh Hitler, stay out of politics" is a real treat. |
