Camping at *M*A*L*I*B*U* Creek State Park--July 2005

The last weekend in July three of my librarian friends and I went camping at Malibu Creek State Park, about 15 miles northwest of Westwood. This is where *M*A*S*H* was filmed during its run, or at least the outdoor scenes. I’ve never been to Korea, but north Malibu seemed just a bit too wild west to be convincing. At night coyotes howled at each other from the mountains, although they stayed away from our campsites. Fires are restricted in the parched Southern California terrain; we could only use Duraflame logs. Camping back east in summer usually means trying to live down a humid, bug infested mess, but the weather here was cool and there were hardly any skitters or what not.
