Santa Monica and Venice Beach

The adjacent beaches of Santa Monica and Venice are about five miles west of UCLA. It’s nice to be able to head out to the beach for a run and swim without any planning, something you couldn’t do in just about any other city. Santa Monica Blvd used to be the end of historic route 66. Malibu is to the north, and Palos Verdes and Long Beach are to the south. Venice has a bohemian/Grateful Dead concert feel, Santa Monica is more cosmopolitan. Surfs up!
