| The Hollentalklamm is a trail up through the foothills of the Zugspitze (Germany’s tallest mountain at 9718 feet). The trail begins right outside Garmish, a five minute drive from Jen Bug’s apartment. Jen Bug and a couple other of her other American expatriate friends took the 3 hour uphill hike with us to the end of the trail. It cuts through a gorge with waterfalls of fast flowing snowmelt, and has two great full service restaurant/bars halfway up and at the end of the tree line. The restaurant at the top of the trail, the Hollental Angerhutte, is less than halfway to the top of the Zugspitze. This is where we ended our hike; to get to the top of the Zugspitze mountain climbing gear to scale sheer rocks and glaciers is required. Two days after we did our hike the whole area was covered with snow. Think of yodeling and of giant St Bernard rescue dogs with small wooden casks full of whisky around their necks… |
