Around the DC area parks in May

May is my favorite month so I was sure to get outside lots and hit all my favorite parks. The DC area has more parks and urban trails than any other area I lived in; something I missed while I was in LA. After working a full day it’s possible to hit any one of hundreds of places and get a few miles of hiking/biking/running in before dark. There are also lots of different events going on all summer; protests and festivals a plenty. On Sunday during Memorial Day weekend streets are blocked off for Operation Rolling Thunder. Hundreds of thousands of motorcyclists take a loop from the Pentagon to the Capital and around the Mall to honor Memorial Day. Started by a group of Vietnam Veterans, the event has expanded and anybody with a bike (Harley or otherwise) is welcome.
